Kathmandu, June 25: Winger Vinicius Junior scored twice as Brazil secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Scotland in their final FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C match on Thursday, sealing top spot in the group and a place in the knockout stage.
At Miami Stadium, Vinicius starred for the five-time world champions, while Matheus Cunha also found the scoresheet as Brazil finished the group stage unbeaten.
Brazil made a dream start when Vinicius opened the scoring in the seventh minute after being set up by Rayan. The Real Madrid forward thought he had doubled Brazil’s lead in the 22nd minute, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review.
However, Vinicius was not to be denied and struck again in first-half stoppage time, giving Brazil a commanding 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Cunha added a third goal in the 60th minute to put the result beyond doubt and complete a dominant performance from the South American giants.
The victory saw Brazil finish top of Group C with seven points from three matches, while Scotland ended the group stage in third place with three points. Although Scotland’s hopes of reaching the knockout rounds remain alive, they must now wait to see whether they qualify as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Morocco Also Advance, Haiti Eliminated
In the other Group C fixture, Morocco defeated Haiti 4-2 at Atlanta Stadium to book their place in the knockout stage.
Achraf Hakimi, Ismael Saibari, Soufiane Rahimi, and Yassine Gesime were on target for Morocco, while Wilson Isidore scored for Haiti, who also benefited from an own goal.
The win lifted Morocco to seven points from three matches, level with Brazil, but they finished second in the group on goal difference. Haiti, meanwhile, lost all three of their matches and were eliminated from the tournament.
Brazil and Morocco advance to the knockout stage, while Scotland await results from other groups to determine their fate.
