Kathmandu, Aug 13: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadagraj Paudel, paid tribute to the climbers who died in the Broad Peak avalanche, Pakistan.
Minister Paudel offered floral tribute to the deceased climbers- Kili Pemba Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa and Nima Sherpa on Thursday. The lifeless bodies of Gyalu and Nima were brought to Nepal on August 12.
The last rites of Gyalu and Nima were performed on Thursday, while Kili Pemba’s final rites are scheduled for Friday. Additionally, the last rites for Pur Bahadur Gurung, another perished in the avalanche, were conducted on August 6.
The body of renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja was however sent to the UK because his entire family is living there. The remains of one of the Nepali climbers killed in the avalanche is still awaiting repatriation.
The mountaineering tragedy occurred on July 30 had claimed the lives of ten climbers, including six from Nepal.
