Agency, Sep 9: Real Madrid made a winning start to their UEFA Champions League campaign, defeating Inter Milan 2–1 on Tuesday night.
Playing at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Real Madrid secured the victory thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde, while Carlos Augusto scored the lone goal for Inter Milan.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 14th minute, converting a pass from Brahim Díaz to give Madrid an early lead.
Valverde doubled Madrid’s advantage in the 23rd minute with his goal, putting the hosts in a strong position.
Inter Milan pulled one goal back in the 77th minute when Carlos Augusto found the net from a pass by Lautaro Martínez. However, neither side could add to the score in the remaining minutes as Real Madrid held on to secure a 2–1 victory.
In other Champions League matches played on the same night, Borussia Dortmund defeated Villarreal 3–2, while Manchester City recorded a 2–0 victory over hosts Porto.
