Questions over revision of tax rates in HoR meeting

Kathmandu, June 11: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today witnessed concerns over government’s authority for altering tax rates without parliamentary approval.

Member of Parliament Nishcal Rai highlighted the need for legislative consent before any amendment to tax issues. The executive’s unilateral actions are not permissible, he said criticizing government’s failure to allocate adequate budget to the flood-hit Ilam district.

Member of Parliament Yubraj Dulal asserted that the proposed budget failed to adequately reflect the aspirations of the Gen-Z movement. The Melamchi project must be incorporated in the budgetary plan, he demanded.
Other lawmakers, including Surendra Chaudhary, Chandra Mohan Yadav and Anand Bahadur Chand, reminded the government of collective accountability and responsiveness in budgetary matters.
