Agency, April 25: Indian Premier League side Punjab Kings registered a historic victory on Saturday evening, defeating Delhi Capitals by six wickets to secure their sixth win of the season.
Chasing a massive target of 265 runs, Punjab produced a stunning batting display to reach the total with seven balls to spare, losing four wickets. This marks the highest successful run chase in T20 history.
For Punjab, Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with half-centuries. Prabhsimran smashed 76 runs off just 26 balls, hitting nine fours and five sixes, while Iyer scored 71 off 36 deliveries, including seven sixes and three fours. Priyansh Arya added 43, Nehal Wadhera contributed 25, while Shashank Singh remained unbeaten on 19 and Cooper Connolly chipped in with 17.
For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets, while Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam took one each.
Earlier, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the hosts opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted a formidable 264/2 in 20 overs. KL Rahul starred with a magnificent unbeaten 152 off 67 balls, smashing 16 fours and nine sixes. Nitish Rana supported him with a blistering 91 off 44 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes. The duo shared a massive 220-run partnership for the second wicket. Pathum Nissanka scored 11, while David Warner managed 3 runs.
For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett claimed one wicket each.
With this victory, Punjab remain at the top of the table with 13 points from seven matches, while Delhi sit sixth with six points from the same number of games.
