Police Club secures trophy of Women’s Gold Cup Football Championship

Kaski, May 3: The Nepal Police Club emerged victorious in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Gold Cup Football Tournament held in Pokhara.

In the final match conducted today at the Pokhara Stadium, the Police won the game by overcoming the Tribhuvan Army Club of the Nepali Army with a score of 5-4 in a penalty shootout. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 500,000, while the runner-up, Tribhuvan Army Club received Rs 300,000 in cash.

In the penalty shootout, Rekha Paudel, Samishka Ghimire, Pooja Rana, Sabina Chaudhary and Barsha Chaudhary scored for the Police.

On the other hand, Anita Lamjel, Deepa Shahi, Hima Chaudhary and Chandra Bhandari scored for the Nepali Army, while Anjana Thulung Rai’s attempt struck the post and Indira Rai’s shot was saved by Nepal Police’s goalkeeper Usha.

The match concluded in a goalless draw in the allotted 90 minutes. The Tribhuvan Army was reduced to 10 players from the first half of the match as Bimala BK of the Tribhuvan Army received a red card in the 27th minute.

Nepal Police Club’s Nirmala BK was recognized as the best player of the tournament, receiving a reward of Rs 30,000. Additionally, Usha Nath and Rekha Paudel from the Nepal Police were the top scorers. They received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 each. The award for the most disciplined team of the competition was presented to the organizing body, RS Pokhara Football.

The tournament, which commenced on May 1, featured participation from Nepal Police, Tribhuvan Army, Sankata and the organizing RS Pokhara Football Club.
