Nepali Kickboxer Ghimire achieves title of world champion

Kathmandu, Sept 6: In an extraordinary accomplishment for the sport of kickboxing, Abiral Ghimire has once again achieved remarkable success. During the main event of the ‘Hit Kick Boxing – 59th International Sports Kick Boxing Federation, World Championship’ held on Saturday at Kariya Hall in Nagoya, Japan, Ghimire made history by defeating French boxer Mathon Choinard. Choinard, a formidable opponent, is the reigning world champion since 2025.

In a breathtaking exhibition of skill, Ghimire delivered a powerful punch that knocked out Choinard in the second minute of the second round. With 29 international tournaments to his name, Ghimire is distinguished as the only Nepali athlete to have secured 21 victories, with an impressive 20 of those wins achieved by knockout.

Ghimire known as “Himalayan Cheetah” has emerged as a prominent figure for Nepal, proudly representing the nation on the global stage through kickboxing.
