KATHMANDU, August 28; At least 579 people have been confirmed dead and 1,924 remain missing following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa and other affected districts, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The reported deaths reported, till 19:00, include 12 in Rasuwa district, 37 in Nuwakot district, 40 in Dhading district, 46 in Gorkha district, 154 in Nawalparasi East district, 27 in Nawalparasi West district, 30 in Tanahun district and 233 in Chitwan district.
Among those missing are 517 foreign nationals, along with 133 people associated with hydropower projects, 66 from Makwanpur district and 127 Nepalis living abroad.
The disaster has left 101 people injured and receiving treatment in hospitals. A total of 4,451 people have so far been rescued, including 129 foreign nationals.
Sixteen helicopters operated by the Nepal Army and private operators have conducted 99 rescue flights, while 15,431 security personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force have been mobilized.
Relief supplies are being transported to affected areas, with 32 truckloads of food and non-food materials already dispatched. Of 195 damaged telephone towers, 145 have been restored following repairs.
The government has provided cash relief of Rs 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot and Rs 5 million to Dhading, while 15 local governments have received a combined Rs 67.5 million in relief assistance.
