Kathmandu, Aug 14: Former president of the Nepali Congress and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said time has come for all of us to instill hope in people by resolving their problems.
Addressing the inauguration of a national gathering of NC leaders and members dissatisfied with the establishment faction on Friday, the former president reminded that NC got huge responsibility to build hope among people by wiping out despair.
Former prime minister Deuba argued the country is currently undergoing a sensitive time, so everyone needs playing their roles in maintaining national unity. All democratic movements in Nepal’s history have been successful under the leadership of NC, he claimed, adding that adversities and struggles of the ancestors and senior leaders in the party can not be belittled and forgotten.
There are struggles and changes behind people’s achievement of fundamental rights and to which NC people should be proud of, according to leader Deuba. “There is unity among almost all political parties during difficult time, which is unique feature of Nepal,” he underlined.
The former prime minister argued the special general convention of NC weakened the party though it bears a long and glorious history. He hoped Supreme Court would do justice. He, however, said all leaders and members should cooperate to narrow widening rift in the NC, the party which has four generations.
Deuba showed readiness to work for the protection of constitutional rights, national consensus and the welfare of the people. Nationalism, socialism and democracy are the main precepts of his life, he reminded, adding that everyone should work hard to institutionalize the republic. The senior leader also expressed gratitude to the leaders and cadres who reached airport to welcome him yesterday.
Former acting president of the party, Purna Bahadur Khadka, urged party leaders to go to every village and build enthusiasm among the followers and well wishers.
Leader Dr Shekhar Koirala emphasized unity in NC to resolve current problems facing the country. It is time to work together for strengthening nationalism, according to him.
Former vice president of the party, Prakash Man Singh, also reminded the role the senior leaders played. In his argument, an illusion was created via social media that the old parties could not work. Leader Bimalendra Nidhi blamed that the special general convention was held in an illegitimate manner.
Others leaders like Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar and Krishna Prasad Sitaula viewed NC must move ahead in a united manner to regain its position as the strongest democratic party in the country.
