Heavy rainfall likely in some provinces with monsoon remaining active

Kathmandu, Aug 15: The monsoon influence is pervasive across the country at present.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has reported that the monsoon trough is currently near the average location in the east and north of the average location in the west, close to Nepal.

According to the Division, the Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as the hilly and mountainous areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, are generally cloudy.

The Madhesh province and Terai regions of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces have partly cloudy skies. Some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, and one or two places in Gandaki province are experiencing moderate rainfall.

In the afternoon, it will generally remain cloudy across the country. In some hilly and mountainous areas of the country, there is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning.

Some places in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as some places in the Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces including Madhesh, are likely to experience moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.

The Division has also indicated possibility of heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces, as well as in one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini province.

The Division has indicated chance of heavy rainfall tonight in a few hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

In view of the possible heavy rainfall and subsequent risks of flash floods, landslides and soil erosion, the Division has urged the general public to adopt safety measures and keep updated of monsoon conditions.
