Kathmandu, Aug 10: The Special Court Kathmandu has ordered the release of former Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki from judicial custody.
A joint bench of Justices Narayan Prasad Poudel, Dilli Ratna Shrestha and Umesh Koirala today ordered the release of Karki, a leader of the Nepali Congress, on a bail of Rs 1.5 million.
Leader Karki was produced in court for extension of his judicial custody in a corruption case.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against leader Karki and the defendants in the Special Court, claiming corruption and irregularities during the construction of the Pokhara International Airport.
Also today, the Supreme Court issued an interim order not to immediately implement the decision to remove the elected office-bearers of Nepal Scouts. A single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal issued a temporary interim order today not to implement the decision to remove the elected officials.
Rabi Khanal and others had filed a writ petition to stop the decision to remove the elected officials of Nepal Scouts, arguing that since they were elected to various positions in the National Council and Provincial Council of the Scouts for four years, they cannot be removed before completion of their full term.
Meanwhile, the court has invited both parties for a discussion on the matter for coming August 19.
