Kathmandu, Aug 28: Funds of Rs 1.91 billion has been deposited into Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund within a period of 36 hours. The government has appealed for public contribution to the Fund following the August 26 devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River and other rivers in its system subsequently.
According to Finance Ministry, the amount was deposited between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday midnight. Contributors deposited over Rs 1.91 billion into the accounts of 10 different Banijya (commercial banks).
The Finance Ministry has been designated as the focal ministry for coordinating the contributions to the Fund. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle is available for accepting the assistance of Rs 10 million or above it from the institutional level by himself. With this, total balance in the Fund has reached Rs 4.09 billion.
Meanwhile, Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. on Friday met the Finance Minister and handed a cheque for Rs 150 million as the assistance.
