Minister Chaudhary calls for promoting use of bio fertlisers

Rupandehi, Oct 2: Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, has stressed the need to promote use of bio and organic fertilizers for the protection of soil fertility and increase in agricultural production.

Addressing the Lumbini- province level orientation relating to the subsidized fertiliser information system here Friday, the Minister warned that excessive use of chemical fertilisers erodes the soil quality. She added that agricultural policies and programmes will be implemented, prioritising the enhancement of soil quality.

The Minister was of the view that bio substances should be segregated during the waste management and used as organic fertilisers.

Stating that even a minor issue at the international level has its impact in the fertilisers’ supply chain in Nepal, the Minister highlighted the need to establish a fertiliser production industry within the country.
On the occasion, she directed the local governments, police and district administration offices for the effective monitoring of the distribution of chemical fertilisers. “Farmers should have easy access to fertilizers.”

According to the federal minister, so far around 2.7 million farmers have been listed for identity cards, so remaining farmers should also get registered in the list.

On the occasion, issues in the subsidized chemical fertilisers system, digital information system and reforms necessary in the agricultural sector were discussed among the stakeholders concerned including farmers.
