Agency, Sep 16: A stoppage-time goal from Carlos Espy secured a dramatic 3–2 victory for Real Madrid over Elche in La Liga on Tuesday night.
At the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero, Real Madrid took the lead in the 25th minute when Arda Güler’s free-kick struck the crossbar before deflecting off goalkeeper Matías Dituro and into the net.
Madrid doubled their advantage eight minutes later, with Kylian Mbappé finding the back of the net from Yan Diomande’s assist.
Elche fought back after the break, with Abiel Osorio pulling one back in the 71st minute. Ferran Niño then completed the comeback in the 83rd minute, scoring to level the game at 2–2.
However, Real Madrid had the final say in stoppage time. In the first minute of added time, Mbappé provided the assist for Espy, who fired home the winner to seal a thrilling 3–2 victory for the visitors.
The win keeps Real Madrid second in the La Liga standings with 15 points from six matches. Elche, meanwhile, remain at the bottom with two points from their opening six games.
