Kathmandu, Sept 4: The Government of Bangladesh has aided one million USD to the Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
The humanitarian aid was handed today to support ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and humanitarian efforts following the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.
Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir, handed over the letter sent by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressing Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah, to the Nepali Ambassador Ghanashyam Bhandari.
Earlier, on September 1, Minister Kabir had expressed condolences for the Bhotekoshi flood disaster by signing the condolence book placed at the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka.
In a message sent to Prime Minster Balendra Shah after the flash floods, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal and conveyed sympathy and compassion for the victims.
Similarly, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also expressed deep sorrow and sympathy for the huge loss of life and property caused by the disaster in Nepal and conveyed condolences through President Ramchandra Paudel.
The Bangladesh Parliament, in a meeting held on August 27, expressed grief and sympathy for the flood victims and missing persons by passing a condolence motion in response to the flood disaster.
A minute of silence was also observed and prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the deceased souls.
The Parliament urged the Bangladesh government to take immediate steps to provide necessary assistance to Nepal in response to the disaster.
Additionally, on the same day, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman held a telephone conversation with his Nepali counterpart, Shisir Khanal, regarding this matter.
During the discussion, he assured Bangladesh’s readiness to provide all possible assistance to Nepal as needed and also discussed ways to expand humanitarian aid.
