Kathmandu, May, 8: Labor Culture Party Chair Harka Sampang has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the appointment of a fourth-ranked judge as the chief justice, terming the government’s decision a serious error.
In a statement issued on Friday, Sampang criticized the government for allegedly pressuring the head of state to issue an ordinance related to the Constitutional Council and for bypassing established seniority norms in the appointment process.
He said that bypassing Parliament to push through the ordinance was inappropriate and that appointing the fourth in the seniority order as chief justice was a major mistake. “Such actions cannot be justified under any circumstances,” he stated.
Sampang also voiced disappointment over Deputy Speaker Rubi Kumari Thakur, who belongs to his party, for endorsing the decision despite concerns over seniority. He termed her action “regrettable.”
