Agency, April 8: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a disappointing defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday night, going down to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by nine runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. The loss denied Bengaluru the opportunity to climb to the top of the points table.
Chasing a challenging target of 213 runs, RCB managed 203/6 in 19 overs. Bengaluru endured a poor start, losing two wickets for just nine runs in 1.2 overs. However, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar steadied the innings with an impressive partnership.
Patidar played a brilliant knock of 61 runs off 32 balls, smashing six sixes and three fours, while Padikkal added 34 runs. Tim David contributed 40 runs, Krunal Pandya scored 28, and Romario Shepherd chipped in with 23, but their efforts fell short of the target.
For Lucknow, Prince Yadav starred with the ball, claiming three wickets while conceding 33 runs in four overs. Shahbaz Ahmed picked up two wickets, while Mohammed Shami added one scalp.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first in Lucknow, the home side posted a massive total of 209/3 in a rain-shortened 19-over contest.
Mitchell Marsh was the standout performer for LSG, hammering a sensational 111 runs off just 56 balls, including nine fours and nine sixes. Nicholas Pooran scored 38 runs, captain Rishabh Pant added 32, and Arshin Kulkarni contributed 17.
For Bengaluru, Josh Hazlewood, Krunal Pandya, and Rasikh Salam claimed one wicket each.
Despite the victory, Lucknow remain at the bottom of the IPL standings with six points from 10 matches. Bengaluru, meanwhile, stay third on the table with 12 points from the same number of games.
