Kathmandu, May, 4: India has rejected the border-related claims raised by Nepal in connection with the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Responding to media queries, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Lipulekh Pass has been a traditional route for the pilgrimage since 1954 and that the यात्रा has been conducted through this route for decades. He stressed that the matter does not represent any new development.
Jaiswal further stated that the territorial claims lack historical basis and evidence, describing unilateral assertions as unacceptable. He added that India remains committed to resolving all bilateral issues with Nepal through dialogue.
The ministry also said New Delhi is open to settling outstanding boundary disputes through diplomatic channels.
India’s response follows Nepal’s move to send diplomatic notes to both India and China, conveying its clear position and concerns over the planned Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lipulekh, a territory Nepal claims as its own.
