Real Madrid beat Atlético 2–1 to set up Supercopa Final clash with Barcelona

Madrid, Jan 9: Real Madrid have secured a place in the final of the Supercopa de España after defeating Atlético Madrid 2–1 in Thursday night’s semifinal.

The match, played at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, saw goals from Federico Valverde and Rodrygo seal the win for Madrid, while Alexander Sørloth scored the lone goal for Atlético.

Real Madrid made a dream start to the contest as Valverde opened the scoring in just the second minute with a stunning free-kick. The lead was doubled in the 55th minute when Rodrygo finished clinically after being set up by Valverde.

Atlético Madrid attempted a comeback three minutes later, with Sørloth finding the net to reduce the deficit. However, despite late pressure, Atlético were unable to score an equaliser, and the match ended 2–1 in favor of Real Madrid.

With this victory, Real Madrid have booked a highly anticipated final clash against Barcelona. The Supercopa de España final will be played on Sunday night.
