London, November 16: Barcelona and Manchester City suffered disappointing losses in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, adding pressure to their campaigns in the group stage.
At Stamford Bridge, 10-man Barcelona were outclassed by Chelsea in a 3–0 defeat. Premier League side took the lead in the 27th minute when Jules Koundé inadvertently scored an own goal, gifting Chelsea an early advantage.
Barcelona’s troubles deepened just before halftime as Ronald Araújo was shown a red card in the 44th minute, forcing the Spanish giants to play the remainder of the match with 10 players. Chelsea capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Estevão doubling the lead in the 55th minute. Liam Delap sealed the victory in the 73rd minute, ensuring a comfortable win for the hosts.
The result lifted Chelsea to fifth in the standings with 10 points from five matches, while Barcelona, with 7 points, dropped to 15th position.
Meanwhile, in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen earned a convincing 2–0 win over Manchester City at the BayArena. Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrik Schick found the back of the net to hand the defending champions a rare setback.
With the victory, Leverkusen climbed to 13th place with 8 points from five games. Manchester City, who have collected 10 points so far, sit in sixth position.
