Kathmandu, Nov 5: CPN (Unified Socialist) General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal has said that the ongoing unity efforts among communist forces will only make the movement more problematic.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Bhusal criticized the recent talks of unity, calling them a “spectacle staged in the wrong direction.” He said the move was an attempt by leaders to conceal their failures. “The so-called unity being pursued by walking the wrong path will further complicate the communist movement,” he said.
Bhusal argued that at a time when leadership within his party and the Maoist Centre has become controversial and questioned, the unity process cannot yield meaningful results. “This unity drive is nothing but an effort to hide leaders’ incompetence,” he remarked.
He stressed that today’s communist parties must be capable of taking on socialist responsibilities. Recalling the CPN-UML’s past conventions, Bhusal said that although the party’s ninth convention had taken important theoretical decisions, it was later weakened by “individualistic and right-leaning factions” that turned it into a group of sycophants devoid of ideology.
Blaming misguided leadership for the division among communist forces, Bhusal said a large number of cadres had become politically directionless and frustrated. “Many are disillusioned, while others, driven by self-interest, are seeking protection under certain leaders or parties,” he said.
He warned that leftist parties, particularly the communist ones, are heading rapidly toward disintegration, adding that very few leaders today are willing to think responsibly about socialist transformation.
