Kathmandu, Nov 3 : President Ramchandra Paudel left for Doha, Qatar, on Monday morning, leading the Nepali delegation to the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to take place from November 4 to 6 (Kartik 18–20).
The President is attending the summit at the invitation of Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
At the Tribhuvan International Airport, President Paudel was seen off by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, the Ambassador of Qatar to Nepal, senior government officials, and chiefs of security agencies. A Nepal Army contingent presented a guard of honour on the occasion.
According to the Office of the President, Paudel will address the main session of the summit on November 4 (Kartik 18), in line with the decision of the United Nations General Assembly. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and other global leaders.
The first World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995. The upcoming summit will focus on issues such as global inequality in development, population imbalances, and the social impacts of technological advancement.
Nepal, which became a UN member in 1955, has remained an active and committed partner in promoting peace and stability. The country currently chairs the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
President Paudel is scheduled to return home on November 6 (Kartik 20) after completing his official visit.
