Agency May 24: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after going down to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 42 runs in a high-scoring match on Friday night.
Chasing a massive target of 232 runs, RCB were bowled out for 189 in 19.5 overs. Phil Salt led the scoring with a quickfire 62 runs, followed by Virat Kohli with 43. Captain Jitesh Sharma contributed 24, Rajat Patidar added 18, and Mayank Agarwal chipped in with 11. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to reach double digits.
For Hyderabad, Pat Cummins was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets. Ishan Malinga claimed 2, while Jayant Unadkat, Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey, and Nitesh Kumar Reddy picked up a wicket each.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being put in to bat in Lucknow, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a formidable total of 231 for 6 in their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan starred with a brilliant 94-run knock. He was well supported by Abhishek Sharma (34), Anikit Verma (26), Heinrich Klaasen (24), Travis Head (14), Pat Cummins (13), and Abhinav Manohar (12).
In RCB’s bowling attack, Romario Shepherd claimed 2 wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya took one wicket apiece.
With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to eighth place on the points table with 11 points from 13 matches. Meanwhile, despite the loss, RCB remains in strong contention, holding third place with 17 points from the same number of games.
