Chennai secures third IPL win with thrilling victory over Kolkata

Agency, May 8: Chennai Super Kings, already out of the IPL 2025 playoff race, claimed their third win of the season with a hard-fought two-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday night.

In the match held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata batted first and posted a competitive total of 179/6 in their 20 overs. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane led the charge with 48 runs, supported by Andre Russell (38), Manish Pandey (36), Sunil Narine (26), and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11).

Chennai’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Noor Ahmad, who impressed with figures of 4/31 in his four overs. Anshul Kamboj and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a wicket apiece.

In reply, Chennai chased down the 180-run target in 19.4 overs, finishing at 180/8. Dewald Brevis starred with a match-winning 52, while Shivam Dube (45), Urvil Patel (31), Ravindra Jadeja (19), and MS Dhoni (17) all made vital contributions.

For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora picked up 3 wickets, with Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy taking 2 each. Moeen Ali claimed one wicket.

Despite the win, Chennai remains at the bottom of the standings with 6 points from 12 matches. Kolkata, with 11 points from 12 games, currently sits in sixth place on the table.
