Tatopani border reopens for three days

Sindhupalchowk, Oct 18: Tatopani border point in Sindhupalchok district, connecting Nepal with China, has been reopened for three days from today to facilitate the import of goods for Dashain, Nepal’s major festival.

Soon after the reopening, cargo vehicles began entering Nepal early in the morning from Xizang Autonomous Region of China, bringing relief to traders and businesses awaiting the resumption of cross-border trade.

According to Dipendra Prakash Giri, Chief of the Tatopani Customs Office, the Chinese side agreed to reopen the border point for three days to ease the supply of festive goods and other essential commodities to Nepal.

Likewise, Buddha Raj Basnet, President of the Sindhupalchok Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared that containers have been lined up in the Liping and Kodari areas on the Nepali side, while more than 45 containers are waiting to enter Nepal from Nyalam county in Xizang.

It may be noted that the Chinese side had completely closed the Tatopani border point from August 31, until further notice.
