Supreme Court verdict not about win or loss, says Thapa

Kathmandu, April 18 :  Gagan Thapa, president of Nepali Congress, said the Supreme Court of Nepal verdict on the party’s leadership is not a matter of victory or defeat, but of due process and democratic practice.

In a social media statement on Saturday, Thapa said the court’s decision has created an environment for party members to unite and move forward collectively to strengthen the organization.

“The respected Supreme Court’s decision has paved the way for all party colleagues to come together and advance on a shared path to rebuild a stronger party,” he said. “This is not about win or loss; it is about procedure, process and democratic norms.”

Thapa expressed confidence that party members and supporters, both at home and abroad, would play a more responsible and constructive role in promoting unity and revitalizing the party. He added that, as party president, he bears the greatest responsibility in this process and will remain actively engaged.

He also called on party members to use the ongoing process of the 15th General Convention as an opportunity to transform and consolidate the party.

“The process for the 15th General Convention has already begun. Let us make it successful and utilize it as an opportunity to reform and strengthen the party,” Thapa said, urging unity to honor senior leaders’ contributions while addressing the aspirations of a new generation.

On Friday, the Supreme Court granted legitimacy to the Thapa-led leadership elected through a special general convention, rejecting a petition filed by the faction of former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
