Kathmandu, August 24: A special documentary highlighting China’s Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Railway, one of the world’s highest-altitude railway lines, has been screened in Kathmandu.
The documentary, produced by the China Global Television Network (CGTN) Nepali Service, was screened by Ray Television HD Kathmandu to mark the 20th anniversary of the operation of modern railway services in Xizang.
Speaking at the event, Ray Television Chairman Prakash Babu Poudel shared his experience of travelling on the Qinghai-Xizang Railway and said China had paid particular attention to environmental protection, wildlife conservation and the preservation of local culture during the construction of the railway. He said the documentary provides valuable insights into the past and present of Xizang.
Former Nepali Ambassador to China Bishnu Pukar Shrestha said China had demonstrated that modern science and technology could be used to develop major infrastructure while adapting to and protecting the natural environment.
Describing the Qinghai-Xizang Railway as an important example of China’s technological and development capabilities, Shrestha said Nepal could learn from China’s experience in infrastructure development. He also thanked CGTN Nepali Service and Ray Television for producing and screening the documentary.
Krishna KC, former language expert at the Nepali Department of China Radio International (CRI), said the completion of the railway was a remarkable achievement. He noted that some Western experts had previously expressed doubts about the feasibility of completing such a challenging project, but China completed it through determination, hard work and a long-term vision.
Zhang Yue (Barsha), Head of the China Media Group (CMG) Kathmandu Bureau, recalled that she and her colleagues had produced numerous news reports and stories during the construction of the railway. She said China’s development was significant not only for the Chinese people but also for the wider world.
Zhang added that the documentary could help Nepali audiences better understand China’s approach to infrastructure development and its experience in undertaking major projects.
Sabin Dhamala, Chairman of News Agency Nepal (NAN), described the Qinghai-Xizang Railway as an extraordinary development project that had attracted global attention. He said protecting the environment and local culture during construction had been major challenges, which China had addressed through appropriate measures.
Ray Television Station Manager Roshan KC said participants gained information about China’s recent infrastructure development and the impact of railway services on local communities in Xizang through the documentary.
The screening was attended by diplomats, representatives of Nepal-China friendship and cultural organizations, social workers, political leaders, businesspeople, students, teachers and media professionals.
According to the organizers, the event highlighted further opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between Nepal and China in areas including infrastructure development, environmental protection, development experience and people-to-people relations. (nepalsamaj.com)
