Dhading, Sept 7: Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has urged all the three tiers of government to implement rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in a way that makes the citizens feel the presence of the State in their lives.
Following his inspection today of the areas in Galchhi in Dhading affected by the recent floods from the Bhotekoshi and subsequent Trishuli river systems, the Speaker stressed that it is the first responsibility of the government to make the citizen feel the presence of the State during disasters.
“It is significant how promptly the affected families receive humanitarian assistance and feel the presence of the government,” said Speaker Aryal. “Not a single affected citizen left in a situation where they have to search for the government,” he said.
He also took time to say that coordination with the government is underway to go with the rehabilitation efforts for the displaced families through a fast track.
The Speaker stressed the need to effectively implement a one-door system for the distribution of assistance through coordination among the three tiers of the government.
He was of the view that real victims be identified and all the affected families should have fair and equitable access to the support system.
He urged the local people’s representatives and the authorities concerned to visit the affected areas by themselves and collect the damage details, underlining the need to relocate vulnerable settlements and come up with the long-term reconstruction plans by bearing in mind the risk in the future.
On the occasion, local people’s representatives, administrative employee and the affected families briefed the Speaker on the loss and damage caused by the disaster in Galchhi, as well as the need for reconstruction and the immediate relief they required.
