RCB go top of IPL table after thrilling win over Mumbai 

Agency May 16:  Royal Challengers Bengaluru climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League standings after defeating Mumbai Indians by two wickets in a thrilling contest on Sunday night. The defeat also ended Mumbai’s hopes of reaching the playoffs.

Chasing a target of 167 runs, Bengaluru reached 167/8 in the final over of the match. Krunal Pandya starred with the bat, scoring a brilliant 73 runs off 46 balls, including five sixes and four boundaries.

Jacob Bethell contributed 27 runs, while Jitesh Sharma scored 18. Devdutt Padikkal added 12 runs, captain Rajat Patidar made eight, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar remained unbeaten on seven runs.

For Mumbai, Corbin Bosch was the standout bowler, taking four wickets for 26 runs in four overs, including a maiden. Deepak Chahar claimed two wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Raj Bawa picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first in Raipur, Mumbai posted 166/7 in their 20 overs. Tilak Varma top-scored with 57 runs from 42 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes. Naman Dhir added 47 runs, while Rohit Sharma scored 22.

For Bengaluru, Bhuvneshwar Kumar impressed with the ball, taking four wickets for 23 runs. Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam and Romario Shepherd took one wicket each.

With the victory, Bengaluru moved to the top of the table with 14 points from 11 matches, while Mumbai remained ninth with six points from the same number of games.
