Kathmandu, July 23: Chairman of the CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli, emphasized that political parties have instrumental role in establishing people’s rights and driving democratic change.
During a programme organized by UML’s Capital Province Committee on ‘Role and Responsibility of the Major Parties in Protecting Constitution and Democracy’, chair Oli expressed worry that the debate in the name of new and old parties could lead to unwanted controversy in the houses and parties.
The event was organized in honour of the 48th Pushpalal Shrestha Memorial Day, commemorating the founder general secretary of the Communist Party in Nepal.
Chair Oli asserted that political parties which carry changing trends are strong to face every hostile circumstance.
Similarly, a leader of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, reminded the past that despite getting huge public trust, their parties failed to meet people’s expectations. He viewed true tribute to Pushpalal would be achieved once the patriotic forces, communist and leftist ones maintained unity and collaboration and acted accordingly at present time.
Senior advocate Radheshyam Adhikari underlined that political parties must forge unity to face adversity that erode democracy and the constitution.
Senior advocate Tikaram Bhattarai also recollected the past weaknesses and success stories of parties, urging them to work hard for safeguarding democracy and constitution.
