Kathmandu, May 25: Nepal kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over in the tournament’s opening match on Monday evening, boosting their hopes of reaching the semifinals.
In the Group ‘A’ encounter held at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Geeta Rana scored the decisive goal for Nepal in the 23rd minute of the first half. Her effort took a deflection off a Bhutan defender before finding the back of the net, ultimately sealing all three points for Nepal.
Nepal also handed debut appearances to Anita Lamjel and Birshana Chaudhary during the match.
With the win, Nepal collected three points from their opening game. Hosts are set to face the in the other Group ‘A’ fixture later today.
