NA approves Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2083

Kathmandu, July 4: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, has said that the government is pushing forward with the Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2083, to speed up infrastructure development.

During today’s National Assembly meeting, Minister Gautam, presenting a proposal on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah seeking consideration on the Bill, she emphasized that this initiative is designed to tackle the challenges faced in the infrastructure sector. The assembly unanimously approved the proposal presented by Minister Gautam.

“Our goal is to eliminate delays in infrastructure projects and hold to account those who misuse the allocated funds,” she said and pointed out that while the public procurement bill could follow the due parliamentary process, it has been brought forward through an ordinance to swiftly address the intricate issues surrounding infrastructure development.

“We’ve opted for an ordinance to tackle that problem head-on,” she explained.

During the meeting, several MPs, including Yuvraj Sharma, Nar Bahadur Bista, Prem Prasad Dangal, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Ranjit Karna, and Somnath Portel, shared their thoughts on the theoretical aspects of the bill.
