Kathmandu, May 11: The ‘Mechi-Mahakali National Rescue Journey-2083’ has been formally launched from the Mechi Bridge today. The Campaign is based on a feeling of compassion that no one should have to lead a miserable life on the streets during this rainy season.
The campaign is taking place from May 10 to June 5. Addressing the formal inaugural ceremony of the journey, Kabindra Burlakoti, General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Member of the House of Representatives, said that the support provided by the Manavsewa Ashram to the state in rescuing impoverished road-dependent people over the past 13 years has been significant.
He added that this humanitarian work requires the cooperation of all the three tiers of government.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol clarified that the metropolitan government has been assisting the Manavsewa Ashram for proper management of homeless people on the streets while keeping the city clean, civilised, and organised, and that there is a policy to further enhance this in the coming days.
Senior humour and satire artist Madan Krishna Shrestha said that there is no greater noble deed than social service and urged everyone to engage in human welfare.
Singer Ani Choying Drolma said that the spirit of service at the Ashram has inspired her to actively engage in social service and that the investment made in philanthropic activities will bring lifelong self-satisfaction and true merit.
Ramji Adhikari, the founding chairman of Manavsewa Ashram, stated that this campaign was initiated to strengthen humanity, compassion, service, love and goodwill in order to build a nation where no one has to live as helpless on the streets and public places of our country, Nepal. He informed that this campaign is being conducted for the third time in collaboration with the Ashram and Ani Chyoing Drolma Foundation.
Under the leadership of singer and social worker Drolma, 26 volunteers will rescue citizens living on the streets without the support of family or relatives and will rehabilitate them in rehabilitation homes located in different districts of the country.
