Kathmandu, Aug 8: The government has intensified the on-site inspection of industries and depots to address the problem seen in the sale and distribution of cooking gas in various parts of the country, including Kathmandu Valley.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Gauri Kumari, inspected gas industries and depots in Kathmandu today, as part of the government’s initiative to address the complaints of the general public that LPG is not easily available, despite the claims of Nepal Oil Corporation that gas is being imported in larger quantities than usual.
Minister Yadav visited the Nepal Gas Industry in Balaju and inquired about the statistics on the import, bottling and sale and distribution. She also visited the depot located at the NOC office in Teku, according to Minister Yadav’s personal secretariat.
During the monitoring, the Industry Minister directed the concerned to sell cooking gas by giving priority to students, daily wage labourers and citizens in distress. It may be noted that following the gas shortage, Nepal Gas, HP, Everest, Sugam and Shreeram Gas Industries have been selling and distributing LPG cylinders from Teku from the NOC office premises.
The NOC is facilitating the sale and distribution of cooking gas by forming a Quick Response Team’ to address consumer complaints. NOC statistics show that around 40,000 cylinders of LP gas are being sold in the Valley alone in a day.
Director of the Corporation’s LP Gas Department, Binitmani Upadhyay, said that gas imports have become regular while efforts are being made to increase the import quota in the coming days.
