Kathmandu, July 29: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the government should play a leadership role in maintaining peace, order and harmony in the country.
The NC president said this responding to journalists while leaving the all-party meeting called by the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, to discuss on topics including the incident that occurred in Sunsari.
Thapa said he had emphasized in the meeting that Prime Minister Balendra Shah should take a leading and supervisory role when the country is facing difficult situations.
“Religious tolerance and social harmony have been our asset for years, and we must protect it. We have proposed to unite and call on the general public to maintain peace and harmony,” said the NC President Thapa.
Stating that in the meeting they urged caution to prevent unwanted activities, and since the government is also the guardian of the people, he said the Prime Minister should engage in dialogue with all three levels of government to maintain peace and harmony in such situation.
