Kathmandu, May, 1 : India has announced the opening of the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage route through Nepal’s Lipulekh area, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
The ministry said the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, organized in coordination with the government of China, will be conducted between June and August this year.
A total of 20 batches of pilgrims will take part in the journey. Of these, 10 batches—each consisting of 50 pilgrims—will travel via Uttarakhand and cross through Lipulekh Pass, while the remaining 10 batches will use the Sikkim route via Nathu La Pass.
According to the ministry, the application process has already begun. Selection will be carried out through a computerized and transparent system, with an emphasis on fairness and gender balance.
Officials said the entire process will be digital, allowing applicants to register and apply through the official website. No physical submissions such as letters or faxes will be required, and applicants may also submit feedback online. Pilgrims will be able to choose either of the routes or both options while applying.
