HoR session: lawmakers draw government’s attention to contemporary issues

Kathmandu, July 14: In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, lawmakers drew the government’s attention to contemporary issues and topics concerning the public.

Demanding time in the session, Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh was of the view that the government and the opposition parties should come up with activities capable of encouraging the citizens when disappointments hover around them.
“The nation exists when only that people and democracy exist,” he said, adding that time demands both the ruling and opposition parties to gear up for nation-building.
He also paid tributes to all those who lately died following the attempts for self-immolations.

Khadak Bahadur Budha drew the government’s serious attention to the death of one Jayasheel Shah after a landslide buried a house in Bheri municipality in Jajarkot on July 12. He questioned the government whenever earthquake-affected citizens have to bear such tragedies.

Narendra Kumar Kerung apprised the government that with beginning of rains, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung districts face an acute shortage of petroleum products including cooking gas, affecting the people’s lives adversely. He urged the government to note this issue seriously and take measures to address them.

He also urged the government to ensure the restoration of Rajduwali road section along the Mechi Highway. He said a delay in restoring the highway has caused inconveniences to the citizens.

Deepak Kumar Shah said the disruption in power supplies for 12-18 hours causes a grave inconveniences to the locals. He demanded the government address the power outage issue.

Karishma Kathariya stated that people’s lives in Sayal Rural Municipality of Doti have been disrupted due to landslides, and even though rescue operations are ongoing, the risk of disaster remains high. She urged the government to move the affected families to a safe place.
Prem Bahadur Bayak requested disaster risk reduction and control, saying that due to continuous rains, districts like Kalikot, Jajarkot, and Kailali have been more affected, and he asked for arrangements to provide relief to the flood and landslide-affected people in those districts.

Ain Bahadur Mahar demanded the government to present the so-called action plan it had introduced for reducing disaster risks caused by natural calamities.

Pramila Kumari Gachchhadar demanded the management of homeless people staying at the ‘holding center’ in Kirtipur. She also expressed that the state should fulfill its responsibility for justice for Majid Ansari, who was beaten by the police.

Gangadevi Shrestha highlighted the problems people faced due to power outages and requested to bring a programme in support of those section of the population from lack of access to electricity.

Shambhu Prasad Yadav said that potholes and drains dug against the standards and left unfinished in local areas have caused disasters. He pointed out the government’s attention to an incident in Siraha where three children drowned in water-filled potholes on such roads.

Shreeram Neupane urged the government to make provision of 320 working days and round-the-clock multi-shifts from the next fiscal year for the country’s rapid development.

Ninu Kumari Karna said that actress Kajal Karna faced discrimination for being Madhesi and demanded that those guilty in the incident be punished to the fullest extent.
