Kathmandu, Sept 24: The central committee of the CPN UML has nominated former President Bidya Devi Bhandari as the senior leader of the party.
The secretariat meeting of the party preceding the central committee meeting on Thursday had passed a list of those, including Bhandari, to be nominated as the central member of the party. It was a longtime debate in UML on whether to welcome Bhandari, also the former vice chair, as a member in the party.
UML secretary Hikmat Karki informed that Bhandari would act as a senior leader of the party; and her role and experience in politics and organization would be helpful in forwarding the party activities in an impactful manner.
Following the meeting, secretary Padma Aryal said Bhandari deserved the post of senior leader for her stature.
Another secretary Mahesh Basnet claimed the central committee meeting of the party was held in a harmonious atmosphere. The attack on party leadership and organization was foiled by the meeting to advance party in a unified way, he added. Basnet also hoped the restoration of dissolved House of Representatives.
The central committee meeting continued for three days concluded today. It had passed the political proposal presented by party chair KP Sharma Oli yesterday.
