Kathmandu, Sept 29: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal met Sri Lankan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Wijitha Herath, today.
Foreign Minister Khanal, who is currently in New York in course of his participation in the 81st session of UN General Assembly, held a bilateral meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart on a sideline meeting, according to Minister Khanal’s secretariat.
The two ministers discussed measures to bolster Nepal-Sri Lanka bilateral relations. During the meeting, Minister Khanal expressed gratitude to the government and people of Sri Lanka for their sympathy and solidarity with the communities affected by the recent disasters in Nepal and for providing economic and humanitarian assistance.
During the meeting, both ministers shared views on various aspects of the friendly relations and cooperation between Nepal and Sri Lanka.
They underscored the need to hold meetings of existing bilateral mechanisms and pledged to further expand and reinforce bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, ranging from trade, tourism, education, culture, networking and people-to-people relations.
