Flooding in Relekhola dam halts power production

Myagdi, Oct 2: The Relekholā Hydropower Project in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Narchyang, Myagdi, has been shut down after floodwaters entered into its dam.

The project with six megawatts capacity stopped generating electricity completely after the flood inflicted damage to the dam located at the base of Relekholā.

According to project chief Darshan Kafle, the power generation has completely stopped due to the damage caused to dam following rain and floods on September 24-27.

Since the dam is located in a geographically remote and isolated area, the access roads are blocked by landslides, making it difficult to divert the water and operate the project.

The project, completed last year, connected its electricity to the central grid through a 220 kV Dana substation.

Floods and landslides from the Kaligandaki River have washed away transmission line towers and broken wires.
