Kathmandu, 04 Sept; The first batch of relief supplies collected through voluntary donations from generous Chinese enterprises and individuals for flood- and landslide-affected communities in Nepal arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday,
According to the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the supplies including 6,000 medical body bags and approximately 27 tons of emergency relief materials were transported to Kathmandu with the full support of China Southern Airlines. The total value of the donated relief materials is estimated at more than one million Chinese yuan.
The relief supplies donated by Chinese enterprises and individuals include 175 tents, 1,000 quilts, 1,000 cotton coats, 1,000 emergency humanitarian relief boxes, and 6,000 medical body bags.
The Chinese Embassy said the relief materials will be transported to the disaster-affected areas of Rasuwa in accordance with the direction of Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
The assistance is expected to help provide affected residents with basic necessities, including food, clothing, shelter and transportation, while also supporting local rescue and emergency response teams involved in ongoing relief operations.
In particular, the 6,000 medical body bags are expected to assist local rescue and emergency response teams in the safe, proper and dignified handling of the remains of people who lost their lives in the disaster.
China has been providing relief and humanitarian assistance to families affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwa, near the China-Nepal border, through both government-to-government assistance and support from Chinese organizations, enterprises and individuals.
The latest contribution reflects the growing humanitarian support from Chinese citizens and organizations for communities affected by the disaster in Nepal.
