Birgunj (Parsa), April 28: Customs clearance work has been halted at Birgunj Customs Office.
Importers and domestic producers have halted the customs clearance from today after attempts were made to implement maximum retail price (MRP) on the imported goods.
Issuing a notice on April 8, the federal government had decided to mandatorily implement the MRP on goods arriving at customs point.
Customs clearance work has been partly obstructed today after the entrepreneurs and businessmen did not come up with a MRP list, said Information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, Uday Singh Bista.
“We tried to implement MRP from today in accordance with government policy, but customs clearance work obstructed today after the entrepreneurs and traders tried to bring goods without determining MRP,” he mentioned.
On an average, around Rs 500-600 million is collected in revenue in Birgunj Customs Office per day.
