Kathmandu, Aug 2: The CPN (UML) has expressed its grief over the deaths of Nepali climbers including Nirmal Puja, the renowned figure in the mountain climbing, in the avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan.
Purja also known as ‘Nimsdai’ was originally from Dana of Myagdi in Gandaki Province and rose to prominence in 2019 following his successful ascents of world’s 8,000-metre peaks in six months and six days. With these feats, he had earned a global recognition in the mountaineering. He also holds other mountaineering records.
Issuing a press statement today, UML general secretary Shankar Pokhrel expressed heartfelt tributes to those climbers who lost their lives in the avalanche, extending condolences to the bereaved families.
The party has said it has been deeply saddened by the deaths of Nimsdai, along with his team members Pur Bahadur Gurung ‘Yukta’, Kili Pemba Sherpa ‘Kilu’, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa in the avalanche that had occurred on Thursday.
It is worth noted that all the ten members including four foreigners in the expedition led by Purja were officially declared dead in the catastrophe.
