Brazil secure first win of FIFA World Cup 2026

Kathmandu, June 20: Brazil registered their first victory of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a comfortable 3-0 win over Haiti on Saturday, boosting their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

At Philadelphia Stadium, Matheus Cunha starred for the five-time world champions with a brace, while Vinícius Júnior also got on the scoresheet as Brazil dominated the contest.

Brazil opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Cunha found the back of the net to give his side an early lead. The striker doubled Brazil’s advantage in the 36th minute, finishing off a well-worked move after being set up by Vinícius Júnior.

The Seleção extended their lead further in first-half stoppage time when Vinícius Júnior converted a pass from Lucas Paquetá, ensuring Brazil went into the break with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Neither side was able to add to the score in the second half as Brazil comfortably saw out the match to claim all three points.

The victory moves Brazil to the top of Group C with four points from two matches, while Haiti remain bottom of the standings without a point from their opening two games.
