NC applauds security bodies for their efforts in disaster-response

Lalitpur, Sept 8: The Nepali Congress (NC) has applauded the security bodies for their roles and efforts during the disaster.

The party’s Central Works Execution Committee acknowledged the efforts made by the security bodies in disaster response following the devastating flash floods of August 26 in the Bhotekoshi and subsequent Trishuli river systems.

Similarly, the party has applauded the gestures, assistance and humanitarian sensitivity demonstrated by the three tiers of government, political parties, social organisations and the private sector during the hours of sorrow and difficulty.

The meeting held on Tuesday stressed the need to make rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts more systematic and effective, according to Party Spokesperson Devraj Chalise.

The party earlier contributed to Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
The meeting also decided to form a committee under the coordination of Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel to study about post-flood search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts, health and education needs, socio-economic situation, national security and climate justice. The committee is mandated to prepare a report within seven days.
