KATHMANDU, Sept 1; The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has rejected recent allegations in Nepali media and online platforms accusing China of a “lack of transparency in hydrological and meteorological data.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Embassy said the allegations were inconsistent with the facts and emphasized that China has continued to provide hydrological and meteorological information to Nepal following the devastating mudslide in the China-Nepal Gyirong/Rasuwa port area on August 26, 2026.
According to the Embassy, the disaster caused damage to monitoring stations in the affected watershed and created difficulties including disrupted transportation and unstable communication signals.
Despite these challenges, China has made every effort to restore the channels for data transmission, the statement said.
The Embassy said China has been continuously providing key hydrological and meteorological data from the affected watershed to Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology on a daily basis. It added that China has also been sharing hydrological information with other relevant Nepali authorities in a timely manner.
The Embassy described the allegations of a “lack of transparency in China’s hydrological and meteorological data” as “highly inconsistent with the facts,” and alleged that such claims were intended to disrupt disaster relief cooperation between Nepal and China.
The Chinese Embassy said China has always upheld the spirit of humanitarianism and fully supported Nepal’s decision-making in responding to the disaster.
It further stated that China has taken concrete measures to safeguard the lives and property of people in both countries and will continue to support Nepal during the difficult period.
“China will continue to help Nepal to overcome the difficulties and rebuild our homes,” the Embassy said.
The statement comes amid heightened public attention in Nepal to the exchange of hydrological and meteorological information between the two countries following the devastating mudslide in the Nepal-China border area on August 26.
The Chinese Embassy’s latest statement seeks to clarify China’s position and underline its continued commitment to sharing disaster-related hydrological and meteorological information with Nepal and to bilateral disaster-response cooperation.
