Arghakhanchi, Aug 8: Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal has expressed hope that the Saljhandi-Sandhikharka-Dhorpatan roadway construction project will gain momentum in the coming days.
Speaking to the media during his field inspection to the project on Saturday, the Minister said the government is working seriously to accelerate the construction of the long-delayed project.
According to Minister Lamsal, the 197-kilometer roadway project is of strategic significance as it serves as a vital infrastructure link connecting various districts in western Nepal.
The Saljhandi-Sandhikharka-Dhorpatan road project was advanced in the fiscal year 2066/67 BS. By the fiscal year 2080/81 BS, only 18 kilometers of road had been blacktopped.
An additional section stretching to 4.5 kilometers was completed in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, followed by 24 kilometers in fiscal year 2082/83 BS. With this, a total of 46.5 kilometers along the route has been blacktopped so far, according to the project office.
During the visit, Mayor of Sandhikharka Municipality Krishna Prasad Shrestha presented a charter of demands to Minister Lamsal.
The demands include the need for establishing a systematic parking lot along the market areas in the municipality, ensuring sufficient budget for the Gorusinghe-Sandhikharka road project, and the acceleration of infrastructure projects in the district, including road, market management and the airport.
