Kathmandu, Aug. 1: Renowned Nepal-born mountaineer Nirmal Purja has been confirmed dead after being caught in an avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak.
In a statement issued on Saturday, his expedition team confirmed Purja’s death following the avalanche. The team also said that the other members of the expedition did not survive.
The statement said Purja’s trusted climbing partners and guides, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta) and Nima Sherpa, were also among those killed in the tragedy.
The team paid tribute to all those who lost their lives in the disaster and extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, relatives, and well-wishers.
