Government committed to removing the country from FATF grey list: Finance Minister

Kathmandu, July 4: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said that the government is committed to removing the country from the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Presenting a proposal seeking deliberations on ‘Prevention of Money Laundering (Third Amendment) Bill, 2083 BS at today’s meeting of the National Assembly, he said that full support of all is necessary to remove the country from the list. All issues that Nepal needs to addressed in this regard will be effectively taken forward.

Finance Minister Dr Wagle urged everyone to support by considering the seriousness of the matter as there is a possibility of Nepal being blacklisted if the recommendations given by FATF are not implemented. He stated that the Government is committed to fully implementing the suggestions given by FATF.

Nepal has been on the grey list since Falgun 2081 BS. The proposal by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle was unanimously approved by the NA meeting.

Earlier in the assembly, lawmakers had emphasized the need to enrich various provisions of the bill with a clearer explanation on the issue of money laundering. They said that the bill should be sent to the relevant committee for discussion and a common opinion should be formed.

Among the lawmakers who expressed their views were Suresh Ale Magar, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota, Roshni Meche, and Somnath Portel.
