Kathmandu, June 4: Minister for Education and Sports, Sashmit Pokhrel, has said government’s campaign of accountability and institutional good governance has made achievement.
He informed that the government was able to recover Rs 104.6 million from the university teachers who did not return to the Tribhuvan University service after study/sabbatical leave. It came as part of the institutional good governance. Process is on to recover further amount, Minister Pokharel added.
As the trend of ditching university service after higher academic and research works continued, it dented education and economic status of university. Such trend will not occur anymore, he added. The Minister shared it through a Facebook post.
So far, 41 university teachers returned the payment they were receiving irrespective of their absence in service. Similarly, 62 other who are in study leave have applied for returning the amount to university. Among them, 54 are written for further action by the university.
It is said TU incurred the loss of over Rs 2 billion due to such truant university teachers/professors. As per TU rule, a teacher can take a study leave up to five year.
A committee was formed to investigate the condition of truant teachers after the news report that many university teachers were absent in colleges for long, causing sheer loss. The 3-member ministry team had found that some 398 professors had misused study leave- 191 did not return to service while 207 did not complete study.
